We, a group of unincorporated citizens of North Florida, run WRAD, an FM broadcast facility operating in the infamously rotting urban core of Jacksonville. Our primary goal is to provide the city center with a non-profit-motivated, non-religious media outlet for independent music, news, and public discourse. Jacksonville is starved for such an outlet, and we believe that our station's function is vital to the survival of independent thought and art in our area.
Our secondary goal is to advance the cause of the larger American free radio movement. We defy the attempts of national media con- glomerates to regulate free speech through Congressional lobbying and private influence within the FCC- ostensibly, the public guardian of the airwaves against profiteering and homogenity. In this light, our broadcasts seek also to be one of the increasing number of micropower stations making American airwaves as ungovernable as possible, towards the goal of tearing down the present regulatory scheme of the FCC and replacing it with a more fair, community-based policy with opportunity for every individual and organi- zation, not just corporations and religious organizations.
WRAD does not endorse any specific political philosophy or moral creed other than a belief in the sacrosanctity of free speech, and follows an equal access policy to all faiths, organizations, and musical styles. We wish to serve our community, and to respond to the needs of the underrepresented among us who bravely take the initiative to contact the station and get on the air.
